CAJUN MOON (SHE'S THE ONE)

If it weren't for the Cajun Moon
I'd of never gone down there
Among the bars of the waterfront
And the men that just don't care
I heard the music callin' me
From deep within a dream
I stopped outside a doorway
The mist turned into steam

I tried to breathe and walk on by
But the music clutched my soul
I braced myself, I walked on in
And pulled the dark door closed
I saw a gypsy on a stool
He wore a knowing grin
I caught his eye and tried to smile
He said: "son - that was your first sin"

I puzzled what he meant by that
I groped into a chair
The music flowed from nothing
there was menace in the air
Someone put a drink down
It filled the dented tin
And when I took a gulp of it
The room began to spin

And when my eyes began to clear
I fought the urge to stand
I knew this dark and strange affair
Had only just began
And then I felt before my eyes
Such beauty I was stunned
I caught her eye and tried to smile
I knew she was the one

I can't begin to tell you
What happened all that night
A sort of spirit surgery
in a garden of delight
She taught me more about myself
Than I wanted to be shown
The things that can bring ecstasy
and the thing best left unknown

And when I woke into the dawn
a hazy distant day
I prayed to all the Gods I knew
But Lord it was too late
So now I fight and bear my pain
In a war that can't be won
But before I die, I cannot lie
She was the one
