ANGELES EYES
© Jack Hoban
The heat of the day
Never seems to give in to the night (they say)
You can feel it as if
It burns out of the depths of their souls
On the floor I am stunned by it
Borne away by the force of it
I am thrilled and afraid of the fire
In her Angeles eyes
Compelled by her sight
I am thrown to the night
And I leave my chair
My arms reach for her
In the hope she'll stop spinning the room
I am drawn by the fire she's lit
I've found a new place and we're both in it
And the key to the door is the fire
In her Angeles eyes
(Bridge)
And I won't admit to the fact
That I'm caught in a trap
By those eyes
And the things that I need
And the things that can't be
Oh why did I come here anyway
There's a prayer and a curse
On my head for the rest of my life
And then it's the day I must be
On my way, I don't want to leave
And the look on her face
Makes me think she'll be sad when I'm gone
But we know it could never be
Her lingering kiss is a gift to me
And the last fleeting glimpse
Of the smoke in her Angeles eyes
